The Unthinkable Happened...
March 6, 2005 started like any other Sunday. The Mikolinis Family had no idea that their lives were
about to change - possibly forever.
It was just after 10:30 a.m. when Nicole smelled smoke. She immediately ran through the house alerting
her family that their home was on fire. It was her quick thinking that gave her parents enough time to get the family
out. As her mother Ann gathered the children outside, her father Ted unsuccessfully attempted to put
out the fire. The house quickly filled with smoke and Ted became confused. Neighbors were unsuccessful in
their attempts to rescue Ted. Firefighters arrived within minutes. They found Ted unconscious on the
kitchen floor. He was later transported to Westchester Burn Unit with burns over 65% of his body.
What can we do?
This is truly a difficult time for the Mikolinis Famiy. In addition to losing their home, Ted remains
in critical condition in Westchester. The community's support has been overwhelming, and the family is extremely grateful.
During the days, weeks, and months ahead, this family is going to be in need of our prayers. For
Ted to make a speedy recovery. For the children who so desperately need to get back to some sort of normalcy.
And for Ann who will be there for Ted during his long recovery and their children as they deal with this tragedy, all
while she tries to put the pieces of their lives back together again.
When Ann was asked if there was anything that can we do, she simply replied, "Do
something special for your spouse today."
